At least 700 students have been left out of the Moi University graduation list set for August 22 this year due to missing marks and huge fee balances.

The affected students claim that some of their lecturers denied them marks deliberately just to send a message to the administration that they have to be paid and given allowances.

Students from the Nairobi city campus claim that at least 500 of them from the school of business, had to contribute some amount and forward it to the lecturers in order for their marks to be released, and cleared for graduation.

Some students even lamented that they had stayed on the campus for seven good years while pursuing a course that is supposed to go for four years.

University students always have a tendency of waiting for rush hours, and that is when they remember they have missing marks.

The Public relations Officer of Moi University, Patricia Cherambos told the affected students that it is too late for them to graduate in August, but if they sort their issues in time, they will most definitely graduate in December.

“We want to urge them to prepare for the December graduation, let them sort their issues early and they will eventually graduate,” said Cherambos.

Cherambos was addressing the students who had started to convene around the University’s administration block demanding for their names to be included in August’s Moi University graduation.

According to Cherambos, some of the students had missing marks and huge fee balances and allowing such individuals to graduate was against the university’s policy.

Moi University’s senate had already sat and approved the group that is going to graduate, leaving out a good number due to the aforementioned reasons.

A good number of the students left out of the August graduation are still optimistic that the administration will reverse the decision and grant them their wishes.
