DPP Prints A 500,000-Page Document As Evidence In Dam Scandal

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji presented a printed document of 500,000 pages as evidence in the ongoing corruption case of Arror and Kimwarer Dam scandal.

Initially, the DPP had presented the voluminous evidence in soft copy but the defense lawyers objected it and wanted him to print it.

The demand from the defense lawyers to have a 500,000-page document printed was seen as a move to sweep the DPP off-balance but the man seems to have been prepared.

It is now up to the court and the lawyers to find out ways of perusing through the whole document though it is not known how long it will take.

According to the DPP, more than 19 billion shillings were stolen by government officials instead of being channelled to the construction of the two dams.

The Arror and Kimwarer Dam Scandal saw the arrest of the then Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury, Henry Rotich, his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge among 18 others.

Henry Rotich and Kamau Thugge have since been replaced after President Uhuru Kenyatta named Ukur Yattani as the new acting CS of Treasury.

It is not yet clear how long the case would take and the fate of Henry Rotich at the cabinet of Uhuru Kenyatta seems to have been sealed.

Kenya loses more than 1 trillion shillings every year due to corruption. This is a third of Kenya’s National Budget.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been under the wrath of Kenyans for failing to crack the whip on his seemingly openly corrupt government officials.

Corruption is high in Kenya at the time the country’s public debt has ballooned to more than 5.8 trillion shillings.

By the time President Uhuru Kenyatta will be leaving office in 2022, the public debt will be above 7.5 trillion shillings.

Both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have expressed concerns over the runaway corruption and the skyrocketing public debt.
