Two Dead as a Census Enumerator Nurses Gunshot Wounds in Isiolo

A bandit attack in Isiolo County’s Loruko area has left two men dead after succumbing to gunshot wounds as census enumerator was left nursing gunshot wounds.

The 7 pm incident that took place on 27^th August 2019 saw a group of attackers melt gunfire on Loruka village killing the two and leaving, Valentine Lamasia, a 23-year-old census enumerator in the area nursing gunshot wounds.

Peter Lekalkuli, the Loruka sub-location census supervisor said the attack took place a few minutes after he had called upon Valentine, the injured enumerator, to submit the day’s data to enable him to submit to the national server.

Valentine suffered a gunshot wound on her right leg according to Peter Lekalkuli, the Census supervisor in Loruka sub-location in Isiolo, who also said that the enumeration exercise would not be stopped by the attack.

Loruka sub-location is in Isiolo North where the Member of Parliament, Hassan Odha, visited and noted the bandit’s motive was to sabotage the ongoing census exercise in the area as they had attacked a house where census personnel was in.

Odha requested that more security officers be deployed in the census exercise to ensure the safety of the personnel and to avoid further hindrances.

Odha requested that the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) considers heightening security for the personnel undertaking the collection of data in the wake of a number of attacks melted on them by Kenyans who are not cooperating.

Odha revealed that security officers already tracked the attackers’ footprints using sniffer dogs to Ngaremara area and expressed optimism that the culprits would be arrested and justice delivered.

The census exercise began on the 24^th of August 2019 and is expected to end on the 30^th of August 2019.

A number of cases of Kenyans not cooperating with the officials have been reported with two awaiting the court’s decision.
