Two Thika Road Lanes closed for Overpass Construction

Motorists using the Thika road superhighway are facing a tough challenge after the contractor has closed two inner Lanes at Allsops for construction of an overpass. This does not mean that the highway is not passable but due to the thousands of vehicles that use the route, traffic will be inevitable.

The overpass is meant to ease the congestion especially at the outer ring road that connects the Thika and Mombasa roads. Early this year, Kenya Urban Road Authority (KURA) had announced that the junction that connects the Thika and Outer-Ring road would be constructed for about three months and would prompt closure of some Lanes.

KURA had observed that since the opening of the Outer-Ring road, traffic on the route has worsened and has forced the authority to construct a link to Thika Road.

During the construction period, that has been estimated to go for three months, motorists will have to connect to Thika road from Outer-Ring from the right side of the highway, then turn on the left onto the Survey of Kenya’s underpass.

Motorists using the airport-bound traffic from the Central Business District will connect to the Outer-Ring road using the Garden City overpass and turn right and drive back to access Outer-Ring road. Traffic coming from Outer-Ring road and want to drive back to Outer-Ring road will drive up to survey of Kenya underpass, turn right and continue up to Garden city overpass, turn right again to drive back to access Outer-Ring Road.

“We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause and thank you for your continued understanding and co-operation,” said a notice released by KURA earlier in April.
