Robbers Make Away with Equity Banks Money in Airstrip Incident

Crew to an aircraft ferrying money for Equity Bank has reported that robbers accosted them at the airstrip and stole the money.

Three suspects have since been arrested following the loss of the money which Equity bank is yet to reveal the amount.

The money was being ferried to Equity bank in Moyale County and according to a police report, the aircraft ferrying the money had left Nairobi at 10:35 am and landed at Odda airstrip almost three hours later.

According to the police, three people were on board the aircraft: the pilot, co-pilot and a cash officer from Wells Fargo Security Company.

When the aircraft landed, the pilot alighted to check the fuel level upon which three strangers emerged from behind the waiting bay.

The pilot reported that three strangers were armed with a pistol and ordered him to lay on the ground before they ordered his team to alight and lay on the ground.

“The other suspects forced the door of the aircraft opens and removed two sacks among the three containing an unknown amount of money…” read the report.

The suspects apparently used a motorcycle which was parked next to the airstrip’s waiting bay to getaway.

A sack containing an unknown amount of money was left inside the aircraft as Equity Bank remains quiet on the incident with reports of lack of security plans on the consignment prevailing.

The suspects according to the report escaped through a cut section on the airstrip fence.
