Pain, tears, fear clouded by shame, disgust and the feeling of betrayal clouded Kenyans who were involved in the night Awasi road accident that has claimed 13 lives arrived at a Jaramogi Oginga Odinga hospital that had no Doctors.

Doctors at the Jaramogi hospital have been on strike for the last three weeks leaving nurses and clinical officers to attend to the victims of the Awasi road accident.

The accident involved an Eldoret Express Bus and a truck resulted in the deaths of 13 people while 38 others had serious injuries to the nurse and were rushed to the Jaramogi hospital where doctors were on strike.

The fate of 18 survivors said to be in critical condition now remains unknown following the continued standoff between the doctors and the Kisumu County government.

The accident which occurred an hour and a half after midnight has raised concerns on whether the bus was allowed to travel at night and if it had met all the criteria while it was allowed to travel at the time.

The Eldoret Express bus was headed to Nairobi while the track was in the opposite direction headed from Kisumu at the time of the accident.

Victims of the Awasi road accident were rushed to the Jaramogi hospital where there were no doctors while others were taken to Ahero hospital where they are already going through urgent treatment.

The bodies at the Awasi night accident have been retrieved and have been transferred to the Ahero sub-county hospital morgue where their kin can access them.
