The Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited (KPLC) has announced that it will now be referred to as Kenya Power and Lighting Company Plc.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, 2nd October 2019, where a public notice was made in newspapers highlighting the change in the company name.

“Notice is hereby given that the Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited has changed its name to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company Plc, following the due approval by shareholders and on receipt of the certificate of change of name issued by the Registrar of Companies,” read the statement from KPLC.

The change in name now changes KPLC from a private limited company into a public limited company. This basically means that the lighting company is now allowed to trade shares in the stock market without seeking approval from the company shareholders.

The new development places KPLC in a better position to raise share capital since it will now be able to sell shares to the public.
