New Recruitment For Kenya Defense Forces Set For November 27

The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) has rescheduled its recruitment dates to November 27th following the cancellation of the previous set dates.

In a report released on Saturday, 26th October, KDF said that the exercise will be conducted until December 16th and interested candidates were urged to apply or re-apply (for those who had earlier applied) in line with the new dates.

The Deputy Director of Public Communications of KDF, Bogita Ongeri, said that the recruitment of General duty recruits and constables will take place at the sub-county levels as has been the norm.

He further noted that vacancies for Defense Forces Constables are open to KDF retirees who nobly retired from the forces and are below 55 years of age and to former National Youth Servicemen below 49 years.

Shortlisted candidates should check the dailies between December 23rd and 29th.

Recruitment of General Service Officers (GSU), Specialists officers, Tradesmen and women, and cadets will take place at the Defense headquarters and shortlisted candidates will be notified through the newspapers between November 16th and 20th.

The recruitment had previously been set to start on October 27th before members of parliament raised an uproar concerning the recruitment centers and what they called the ‘rot’ in the defense forces.

According to the MPs, the plan by the ministry of defense to have recruitment conducted at the county level would be unfair as it would lock out deserving youth from counties such as Turkana and Marsabit who would have had to cover long distances to reach their recruitment centers.

The lawmakers further said that they have had reports of unfairness in KDF’s strategy of selection as some people reportedly had to pay amounts as huge as 300,000 shillings to be considered for the job.

To look into the lawmakers’ claims, Cabinet Secretary for Defense Raychelle Omamo had to postpone the recruitment for a later date.
