“I can’t believe 2019 is over,” someone says while seemingly being in deep thought.

“I can’t believe we are almost into 2020,” someone adds, also seemingly in deep thought.

The truth is 2019 kicked off like any other year but proved to be one of the most “disappearing” and “melting” years among them all. 2020 is one month away and Christmas is just less than a month away.

According to the majority of Kenyans, this has been one of the most challenging year economically. “There is no money in the pockets,” you could hear Kenyans complaining from time to time.

This is the year that has seen many people losing their jobs as businesses either cut down on their workforce or simply closing down as a result of the high cost of doing business.

“Christmas is going to be boring,” someone says. “Because people have no money to afford the luxury of celebrating Christmas.”

That should not be the case though. Christmas does not mean that you have to burn your pockets to celebrate the once a year moment.

The season of Christmas is often challenging for those of us staying in Nairobi or Mombasa and planning to visit our rural homes.

Our friends and relatives staying “back home” expect us to buy them “something small” from the “big city.” Sometimes you might not want to do it but you just find yourself doing it.

They say “#MaishaNiXtra” if you have those who love and care for you next to you. There are various gifts you can buy your family members this season.

What are you planning to buy? Let me ask you, is your mum still struggling with firewood, cooking in the open and almost choking with smoke? Why can’t you buy them an energy-saving jiko? You not only be giving them convenience but protecting their health too.
