The Teachers Service Commission will deploy a total of 10,000 intern teachers to various public secondary schools across the country in January 2020.

Speaking during the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2019, CEO of TSC Dr. Nancy Macharia said the posting of teachers is aimed at ensuring a smooth 100 percent transition from primary school to secondary school.

The government, through the Ministry of Education, said that no student will be left out of joining form one come January 2020 in the ongoing “100 percent transition” being pushed by the national government.

TSC says it is working in ensuring that there are enough teachers in public schools to ensure that there are enough resources in terms of manpower.

“The Commission will employ and post 10,000 intern teachers by January 2020,” said Nancy Macharia.

In the ongoing implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), the government, through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has already trained 107,320 teachers in the new curriculum. All the teachers trained are from primary schools, both public and private.

At the end of the training exercise of the CBC, the government says a total of 228,000 teachers will have been trained as the government plans to fully roll out the CBC.

“I wish to state that we are prepared to completely roll out the Competency-Based Curriculum for Grade 4 across the country. All the books have been printed and delivered to schools except a few which will be done before the end of the year,” said the Cabinet Secretary of Education Professor George Magoha.

To reduce cases of indiscipline among teachers, the TSC has cautioned private schools against hiring individuals who are not registered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Dr. Nancy Macharia says most of the indiscipline cases reported involve individuals employed as teachers but not registered with the Commission.

TSC says that plans are underway to reward teachers who have performed exemplary well in ensuring discipline.
