Local newspaper, the Nairobian is under fire for a daring headline on their December 13th newspaper copy which alleged that Sonko was arrested with University Student leader, Ann Mvurya.

The Thursday issue of the Nairobian, which read “Sonko arrested with Hot Campus Girl” with a picture of both Sonko and Ann Mvurya, went on to say that the university student leader had been seen often in the Governor’s private office.

A hashtag on Twitter, #ShameOnNairobian, quickly took the top spot on Kenya Trends, with tweeps across the country condemning the newspaper over the allegations that Sonko and Ann were having an affair.

The Nairobian issue continues to say on page 4 that during Sonko’s arrest, the varsity girl was shy and appeared to have been pregnant.

Ann Mvurya, 24, hit the news after she won the highly contested seat of the chairperson of the University of Nairobi Students Association and is the first female student to lead the association.

It is not clear if these allegations are true or not but tweeps on Twitter are divided on the issue, with one tweep branding the Nairobian as “a true definition of what gutter press is”.

Another tweep seemed to believe the allegations and shared a video of the arrest of Sonko, claiming that the lady in green was Ann Mvurya.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you think the allegations made by the Nairobian are true?
