Mike Sonko Rushed To KNH From Kamiti Maximum Prison

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has today’s, 10^th December 2019, morning been rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital after he fell ill at the Kamiti Maximum Prison on Monday night.

Mike Sonko’s lawyers had earlier on Monday during the Governor’s hearing sought to have him released on bail on urgent medical grounds.

Mike Sonko’s lawyers have accused the police of assaulting the Nairobi Governor saying it has since resulted in serious health issues that required him to be urgently checked by a Doctor.

Mike Sonko was dramatically arrested in Voi on 6^th December 2019 following orders by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, following allegations of misappropriation of funds that has led to the loss of 357 million shillings at City Hall.

The Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, in his ruling, directed that Mike Sonko’s admission to hospital be approved by the prison’s medical center.

The Anti-Corruption Court Chief had ruled that Mike Sonko be taken to Industrial Area Remand Prison where he would stay pending his bail hearing on Wednesday the 11^th of December 2019 but Sonko was moved to Kamiti Maximum Prison for Medical Check-up.

Governor Mike Sonko was denied bail after the Prosecution led by James Kihara, opposed it on grounds that he is a flight risk who is likely to abscond court, intimidate witnesses and interfere with investigations.

Mike Sonko, the Nairobi Governor and 11 others were charged with several counts of corruption relating to irregular payment of 357.3million shillings, charges they all denied.

The Nairobi Governor’s, Mike Sonko, criminal history was recanted in the Court upon which was also used as grounds to deny him bail as he is reported to have previously escaped prison.

Governor Mike Sonko was charged with laundering, unlawful acquisition of public property and other economic crimes on 9^th December 2019, charges he vehemently denied.
