Zozibini Tunzi is a South African model and beauty pageant titleholder She is the third woman from South Africa to win the title, and the first black woman since Leila Lopes was crowned Miss Universe 2011.

She had been criticized by people online that “She looks like a boy.” She responded in an Instagram post in September stating: “Society has previously been programmed in such a way that there’s nothing beautiful about being black. The furthest you are from being fair-skinned the uglier you are. That, unfortunately, has been the universal standard of beauty and it is very difficult for some people to unlearn it.”

During the event, Zozibini Tunzi said “I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair — was never considered to be beautiful,” she said in her last response. “I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”
