The results for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2019 are out.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof. George Magoha released the results on 18th December, keeping his promise on having them released before Christmas.

During his speech, CS Magoha noted that there was a general improvement in this year’s KSCE results as more students attained a mean grade of C+, which is the minimum requirement for university admission under government sponsorship.

627 students got a mean grade of A Plain while 5,796 candidates got a mean grade of A- (Minus), compared to last year where 3,418 students got A- (Minus).

There will also be more students joining the university on government sponsorship next year, as the number of candidates scoring C+ and above rose by 35,369, making it a total of 125,746 from 90,377.

CS Magoha encouraged candidates and parents to accept the results as every student has a place somewhere regardless of the grades attained.

CS Magoha specifically advised students who will not have attained grades needed for direct university entry to consider joining TVET institutions, where they will be trained on skills that are needed most in Kenya.

Most importantly, Prof. Magoha acknowledged students who scored below 200 marks in their KCPE and who, despite joining schools that are considered ‘small’ and little known, have made it join the university.

Kinyua Milkah Wanjiru was one of those who performed incredibly well in this year’s KCSE exams. With 179 marks at KCPE in 2015, she joined Gathara Secondary School and has managed a B- (Minus).

Munyoki Mwikali of Mama Malia Secondary School will also join the university having attained a mean grade of B- (Minus), which is an improvement from 199 marks she scores in KCPE.

Below is the list of some students who scored less than 200 marks at KCPE but have managed to score C+ and above in their KCSE:

  1. Kinyua Milkah Wanjiru- 179 (KCPE) – B- (Minus)
  2. Munyoki Mwikali – 199 (KCPE)- B-(Minus)
