The race for the next Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is underway after the official unvailing of four candidates by the society.

The four LSK Presidential Candidates include Maria Mbeneka, Nelson Havi, Harriette Chiggai and Kanjama Charles.

All the four candidates have been described as “forces” in the legal fraternity and as Swahili people say kivumbi kitatifuka.

The current LSK Presidential race will be determined by a candidate who will display the true characteristics of a leader, within and without the society.

A good leader knows his or her people. Nobody can claim to be a leader without knowing who his or her people are.

A good leader knows where the people should be. He or she takes the people to a place, not because they want to be there but because the leader knows that they must be there.

A good leader doesn’t take credit. He or she is a team player and knows the power of “we” as opposed to the power of “I”.

A good leader leads from the back. He or she knows the power of the people and lets the people have a sense of ownership and belonging.

A good leaders knows why he or she SHOULD be a leader.

“I have offered my candidature for the seat (President of LSK) because I have a clear vision of what the future should look like: one that is all inclusive, member centric and progressive,” says Maria Mbeneka, one of the candidates.

A good leader is courageous, fearless and firm for the sake of those he or she represents. A good leader knows when to speak but most importantly, knows when to remain silent.

“I have the zeal, goodwill, energy and proven track record to deliver on this agenda,” added Maria.
