A Walk Through the Fine Experience Of LSK Presidential Aspirant Maria Mbeneka

Being a woman in Africa is difficult but being a woman leader is most difficult and for one to exemplary excel, then it definitely takes courage, strong will, and experience, failing and coming back up again until their vision shines through.

One of my all-time great women in leadership and behind her leaves a trail of inspiration is Maria Mbeneka, a lawyer by profession, a former vice president of the East Africa Law Society and current a Presidential aspirant of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

Like a fine wine, Maria Mbeneka has stood the test of time and is now eyeing the top seat of the LSK President where she hopes to deliver her vision to the society of lawyers.

A good leader talks a lot to convince masses to vote them in but a great one leaves their previous works to do the talking and going through Maria Mbeneka’s past it easy to see why this lady is a trailblazer.

Maria Mbeneka was part of the Legal team representing EALS in miscellaneous Civil Application number 47 of 2017 in which the Government of Tanzania has attempted to disband the Tanganyika Law Society, a clear revelation that her muscles run deep.

The EALS, established by the East Africa Law Society when Maria Mbeneka was the Vice President, established an institute that runs online training and capacity building programs.

Maria Mbeneka was also a part of a team that reduced the size of the council from 22 to 11 and introduced for the first time in history equal gender representation.

A council member from the year 2018, Mbeneka played a critical role in the negotiation and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Google Kenya and the LSK allowing lawyers to access online tools to improve efficiency for better output.

Maria Mbeneka as a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) partnered with the Lawyer’s hub to run legal and policy hackathons.

Maria Mbeneka has mastered the art of representing issues that affect lawyers and even appeared before the Senate Committee on Legal Affairs to present members views on the County Attorney’s Bill which is why she is best suited to take over the LSK president seat, #Mbeneka4LSKPresident
