Following his arrest in the wee hours of Friday morning, 17th January 2020, Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, the Embakasi East Member of Parliament has refuted claims that he shot a DJ at B-Club in Kilimani area, Nairobi.
Babu Owino who is reported to have drawn his gun and shot the DJ on the neck refuted the claims saying the firing of the gun did not come from him.
The DJ, Babu Owino is accused to have shot at the Kilimani’s B-Club is said to have been severely injured and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“Even the watchmen were in panic mode. Apparently, it was Babu Owino that had drawn his gun and shot somebody at B Club,” a witness said.
“Ironically, it is the same Babu Owino that shot the man that also rushed him to hospital,” the witness said.
It is also reported that police were to recover the gun used in the Babu Owino incident.
Babu Owino has responded in the below statement sent to new rooms:
“A few weeks ago, I made a public statement regarding threats that I had been receiving against my life. At the turn of the year, I reported an attempted assassination at the Parliament Police Station under OB number OB21/17/11/2019 at 17:28hrs. I have been living under the weight of intimidation and threats by my political opponents.
Yesterday was the culmination of these efforts by my enemies. While enjoying the company of my friends at a popular Nairobi restaurant, I was surrounded by a large group of aggressive individuals. In the melee, there was an exchange of gunfire.
I invite the relevant authorities to conduct their investigations without fear or favor and I remain confident that the truth will come out.
I urge my supporters to remain calm. I will continue to serve wananchi fearlessly. This will not deter me from supporting H. E Uhuru Kenyatta and H. E Raila Odinga in the journey to transform our country.”
The Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is not new to controversy and neither is he a rare face in Nairobi’s uptown party life.
The man who was shot by Babu Owino has been identified as DJ Evolve and is currently receiving treatment and is in a critical condition and in admission at the Nairobi Hospital intensive care unit (ICU).
