Food processor Del Monte Kenya has reached an amicable settlement with the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK), after voluntarily amending a missing wording on the packaging of one of its products.

The Thika based company in a statement said that it had amended the wording on its packaging long before the Competition watchdog initiated their investigation, and this position was acknowledged by both parties leading to the settlement and subsequent gazette notice by CAK.

“At no point was the quality, safety, and integrity of Del Monte Kenya’s products questioned by the competition authority nor our high production and hygiene standards in dispute, but rather the omission of wording on the packaging of one of our products”, said Stergios Gkaliamoutsas, Del Monte Kenya Managing Director.

Del Monte Kenya is the country’s largest producer and exporter of processed pineapple products and other fruit beverages grew and packaged at its 10,000 plus hectare farm in Murang’a. The company is Kenya’s largest exporter of pineapple products and other fruit beverages, earning the country over 9 billion Kenya shillings in foreign exchange annually.

The company is contributing to achieving the Big Four Agenda, with its local cultivation, agro-processing, and value addition supporting the manufacturing and food security in the country.
