The Governor of Kiambu Ferdinand Waititu Baba Yao has officially been impeached by the Senate.

In a heated debate that has raged on for two days, the Senate has resolved to impeach Waititu on charges leveled against him including abuse of office.

Ferdinand Waititu Baba Yao now ceases to be the Governor of Kiambu County. He has become the first Governor to leave office by impeachment.

On the three accounts leveled against him, the senators voted 27 against 12, and 28 against 11 for the remaining two accounts.

Senators took a lot of time wondering whether Waititu’s case was enough to warrant him an impeachment given murmurs that at the time of being impeached at the County level, there might have been no quorum.

Waititu is likely to move to court tomorrow to challenge the decision and according to former senator for Kakamega Dr. Bonny Khalwale, the court is likely to reinstate him.
