How To Apply For The New E-License As NTSA Promises Instant Fines

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced that drivers should apply and acquire the new look smart driving license by July or risk attracting instant fines.

The move viewed as a way of the Government to extort money from Kenyans has been received with overwhelming criticism as a large section of Kenyans still have valid driving licenses of the old generation.

The decision was reached in a meeting by the NTSA in Mombasa led by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

“The issuance of manual driving licenses will be suspended by July 1. We are going to start trials on instant fines immediately and by July 1, we will go fully on the issue of fines as we cease issuing manual driving licenses. We are migrating to digital and that’s the way forward,” CS Matiang’i said.

NTSA is hence calling upon motorists who already applied for the smart driver’s license but are yet to collect them at the NTSA offices in Nairobi to go collect them.

An E-License is a smart card that costs 3,050 shillings and is renewed every three years.
