KQ’s Operation Pride Turnaround Programme to Cost Workers Their Jobs

Kenya Airways, KQ, has initiated a restructuring plan dubbed Operation Pride Turnaround Programme that will see it lay off some of its workers.

Acting CEO, Allan Kivuka said that the Operation Pride Turnaround Programme will see the airline restructuring and with this, some of its workers will lose their jobs.

In a memo sent to KQ staff, Allan Kivuka said that some job roles would change, others enriched, while others would disappear altogether resulting in redundancies.

KQ has been going through financial tribulations ever since it made a loss of more than 26 billion shillings, and 2019 was no different.

The national carrier joined a list of many other companies that issued profit warnings for the financial year 2019.

While workers at KQ seem uneasy, Kivuka has said that they will try to make the layoffs as humane as possible and if required, KQ will involve relevant stakeholders.

Kenya Aviation Workers Union (Kawu) have disputed the move by KQ to send some workers home, saying that the airline should deal with mismanagement and corruption first.
