The commercial rollout and ongoing support of a pioneering Pay-As-You-Go mobile phone project is now underway in Kenya.

As a leading technology company, Samsung has collaborated with Safaricom and M-KOPA to provide the Kenyan mobile industry with an intelligent and secure pay-as-you-go solution.

This initiative is a world-first mobile security solution enabling carriers, financial partners and retailers running installment plans to remotely manage Samsung devices. The initiative will leverage the benefits of Safaricom’s fast 4G data network and service in Kenya.

Essentially, the pay-as-you-go initiative will enable carriers and dealers to expand their current customer base with lower upfront fees and interest rates. Additionally, it unlocks the potential to provide device micro-financing plans, thus making smartphones more affordable. The system will also manage smartphone usage based on specific prepayment plans.

“Samsung is very pleased to provide a reliable mobile security solution in this partnership that will benefit the people of Kenya in a very meaningful way. This partnership will create more affordable payment plans, offered by M-KOPA, to access Safaricom’s 4G data network and Samsung’s world-class devices. There is so much growth opportunity in the region and we believe that this partnership will help accelerate economic growth in Kenya’s mobile industry,” says Sung Yoon, CEO, and President of Samsung Africa.
