Take Pictures Of Locusts If You Want To Fight Them – Kiunjuri

“If you see any insect that you suspect could be a locust, take a picture and post it on social media so that we can confirm for you what insect really is,” said the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Mwangi Kiunjuri.

It is almost certain that Kenya has ignorant, foolish and clueless leaders who have no idea of what their roles in government entails. It is like they are placed in those positions just to fill them and for them to earn a salary.

Kenya is under attack by an army of locusts that are moving from county to county, feasting on everything green and leaving a tale of destruction behind. There is nothing but pain and hopelessness.

The locusts, which are believed to have originated from Ethiopia, first landed in Wajir and Garissa counties. The insects have now destroyed almost every vegetation.

The first attempt by the government of the Republic of Kenya to fight them was to dispatch police officers with specific orders to shoot in the air and scare them. Imagine that. Who, in his right mind would control locusts by shooting them?

The locusts are now in Meru County, destroying miraa crops and other food crops. Kenyans are making fun of it online and the Government seems to have no plans of helping the farmers out.

Truth is the locusts are more organized than the Kenyan government. They move and act in will coordinated attacks than those Miguna Miguna would call “zombies” in this “digital government” of ours.

And now the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, who has been touring the Central Region for political reasons seems to have come to his senses and his first Solomonic advice is we take pictures of insects and post them on social media.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, Mwangi Kiunjuri, the government needs at least 254 million shillings the fight the locusts. Any Kenyan knows how the already well-written script will end. It will end in tears. They will loot the cash. Those locusts are them.

If the locusts will not be contained, Kenya is likely to have an acute food shortages and the situation might be beyond redemption. Already 24 counties are hungry for lack of food and water and the food harvested last season cannot sustain the country.
