Terror Suspects Arrested in Nanyuki and Eastleigh, Kenya on High Alert

As Kenya marches ahead to commemorate a year since the Dusit D2 terror attack in Nairobi’s Westlands and the battle of El Adde security concerns have heightened around the Country with fears of similar attacks by the Al-Shabaab militia looming.

The Dusit D2 terror attack took place between the 15th and 16th of January 2019 while the battle of the Al Adde took place on 15th of January 2016, both less than 10 days away.

Arrest of Terror Suspects

Police, on Sunday, 5th January 2020, arrested three people who were caught attempting to break into a British Army base in Nanyuki and are suspected of having been on a surveillance mission.

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya confirmed the arrests of the suspected terrorists saying the suspects were under interrogation.

The motive of the attempted forced entry by the three terror suspects into the British Army Training Unit in Kenya (BATUK) remains unclear as investigations continue.

In another different incident, a man of Somali-Canadian decent was today, 6th January 2020, arrested in Eastleigh for suspected terror links where he is suspected of surveilling the Kenya Defense Forces Air Force Base.

“They tried to force their way there but they could not. So they were tracked down. They just had cameras I think but we are still interrogating them to find out the truth,” Mr. Natembeya said referring to the Nanyuki terror suspects arrest.

The three Nanyuki terror suspects were caught on surveillance camera trying to gain access to the army base and were arrested at around 5 pm near the Nanyuki police station after the footage was spread among the law enforcers.

Identities of the three Nanyuki terror suspects remains unrevealed as the Country stays on high alert.

Kenyans are continually advised to report any suspicious behavior or luggage left unattended as the Security tightens.
