A Ukrainian Boeing 737 plane carrying 180 passengers and crew members, has crashed today, Wednesday, 8th January 2020, shortly after taking off.

According to flight-tracking website in Ukraine, Boeing 737 crashed approximately 8 minutes after taking off from Imam Khomeini Airport in Tehran, Iran at 6:12 am local time.

Boeing 737 was headed for Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital before the crash took place.

Data from Flighradar24 flight tracker indicates that Boeing 737 was scheduled to take off at 5:15am Tehran time but was delayed for almost an hour until 6:12 am.

Despite speculations that the plane went down due to Wednesday morning’s missile strikes on bases in Iraq hosting US troops, indications suggest that the crash did not appear to have links to the missile attacks.

Shortly after Boeing 737 went down, Boeing released a statement on Twitter saying it was aware of the media reports out of Iran and was gathering more information.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the crash site, between the cities of Parand and Shahriar, but couldn’t assist because the area was still on fire.

Iran’s Emergency Medical Services have reported that most passengers on board the Boeing 737 have died and that there is no hope for survivors.
