There has been panic and tension in Athi River as angry residents sought for the immediate ejection of one Chinese man believed to have been among those that came in with the 26th February 2020 flight at the JKIA.

The  Chinese national who sought to self-quarantine himself in the Athi River area has been identified as Qi Xiao Li.

Qi Xiao Li who is 35 years of age was among the 239 Chinese nationals who landed in the country on Wednesday the 26th from Guanzhou in China which is believed to be heavily hit by the coronavirus outbreak.

The Athi River Chinese man suspected to be testing positive for coronavirus had reportedly struck a deal with one of the tenants to stay around for 14 days for the self-quarantine as directed by the Ministry of Health upon landing in Nairobi.

Qi Xiao was driven to estate from the airport by an Uber taxi driver who wore a face mask and was ushered in by his colleagues who were all in masks.

Qi Xiao is reported not to have been exhibiting any symptoms of coronavirus but there are fears that the virus could be in the probation stage hence not symptomatic.

The arrival of the Chinese man in the Athi river has caused panic among the residents who now say they are worried and do not understand how the Government could allow passengers from the Country knowing the consequences of the coronavirus.

“We are worried. Everybody is worried. We just don’t understand how they could let them in like that,” the estate manager Kennedy Kyalo told the press.

Kenya Airways and the government has received backlash from the citizens who have ridiculed the decision to have the China Southern Airline to continue flying to JKIA as other countries have totally shut direct flights from the country.
