Former Homa Bay MCA Rosemary Oluoch Collapses and Dies

Homa Bay County is now mourning the death of the former Member of County Assembly (MCA), Rosemary Oluoch.

The former MCA of North Kabuoch ward in Ndhiwa Sub County, Homabay County was cleaning her house on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, when she collapsed and became unconscious. She later died as she was being rushed to the nearby hospital.

According to her husband Joel Ojuok, Rosemary was all well and had no health issues prior to her untimely death.

The late MCA’s husband said his wife was rushed to Angiya Dispensary by her relatives who were alerted by the house help but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Oluoch was the only elected female member of Homa Bay County Assembly in the 2013 General Elections. Oluoch triumphed over more than 40 men who were eying for the seat. Oluoch later went on to serve as the Deputy Chief whip in the Homabay County Assembly.

Ms. Oluoch’s election acted as the Genesis of the election of other women in Homabay County. Ms. Joan Minsari Ogada was later elected to represent Kojwach ward and Mary Odira Ojalla for Arujo ward breaking the monotony of the male domination in the county.

Other women who have so far been elected in Homabay County are MPs; Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Dr. Lilian Gogo (Rangwe), Evelyn Obara (Kabondo Kasipul) and the county Woman Representative Gladys Wanga

Homa Bay Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata is among those who sent in their condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the late Oluoch.

Mr. Orata said the news of Oluoch’s demise came as a shock to many as she had never complained of any serious ailment.

Rosemary Oluoch also referred to as Dwasi breathed her last at the age of 44.

Oluoch’s body was taken to Christamariane mortuary in Kisii County.
