The late President Moi is scheduled for burial on the 13th of February 2020 and the Government has promised to offer incentives to the first 30,000 mourners who will arrive at Kabarnet Gardens for the funeral.

“There will be some snacks for the first 30,000 mourners. They will receive free soda, bread, water and a burial program for the day’s event. They will also be allocated a place to sit,” the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has said.

Each of the 30,000 mourners who will attend President Moi’s funeral will be handed a soda, a loaf of bread, water and a program of the event on arrival at the burial venue.

“There will be no dignitaries at the burial ceremony and therefore everyone who will show up will be regarded as a mourner…The earlier you come the better” Natembeya has stated.

During the address, the regional coordinator further disclosed that security will be heightened along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway and other subsequent routes associated with the state funeral.

“I urge Kenyans to have discipline while using the highway. Sometimes we experience challenges on the road not because police officers have not been deployed but because of motorist’s indiscipline,” Natembeya said.

“Some people overlap disregarding the flow. I urge them to be disciplined so that we have a free flow of traffic. Overlapping will be a very serious offense that day and we shall deploy enough officers all the way from Nairobi to Kabarak,” Natembeya added.

The government is also working to mount four giant screens in Rift Valley to help other mourners to follow the late former President Moi’s burial on Wednesday the 12th of February 2020.

The screens will be mounted at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Sacho, Ravine, and Kabarnet in Baringo County.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i said the screens will be in Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Sacho and Kabarnet in Baringo County, with the fourth screen’s spot yet to be decided.

Sacho is the birthplace of the late Mzee Moi while Kabarnet was his hometown.

CS Matiang’i said the screens will help those who are unable to travel to Kabarak to follow the proceedings during the burial and also avert overcrowding.

“Those sites will get the same services as here. They can follow the service and participate in it fully from there,” said CS Matiang’i.
