Joseph Irungu aka Jowie has been released on a 2 million shillings cash bail by a Milimani Law Court over the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani after two years in prison.

Jowie was also given an alternative bond of 3 million shillings and was released today’s morning, 13th February 2020, by Justice Wakiaga at the Milimani Law courts.

Justice Wakiaga said there is no compelling reason to deny the accused (Jowie)bail adding that the circumstances in the case had already changed.

The judge said witnesses under witness protection had already testified to Jowie’s case and so there was no longer the risk of him interfering with the case.

The judge further ruled that the strength of the prosecution case is not a ground alone to deny the accused person bail.

Justice Wakiaga, however, ordered Jowie not to comment on the case on any social media platforms or anywhere for that matter and was also ordered to report to the chief every end month.

Jowie who was arrested alongside his then-fiancee Jacky Maribe and Maribe’s neighbor Brian Kasaine has been in remand for close to two years as he was arrested on the 25th of September 2018.

Courts have on numerous times denied Jowie bail as the prosecution argued that he was a flight risk and was likely to interfere with witnesses, Jackie Maribe, however, was grated bail shortly after the arrest.

Justice Wakiaga has also earlier dismissed Jowie’s application for a bail review saying that it lacked merit and was premature.

Monica Kimani Murder

28-year old Monica Nyawira Kimani was found dead in her apartment in Kilimani at a time that could be said was the climax of her life financially.

Living in an uptown resident that most only see on social media, Monica had bought her mother a Subaru Impreza and was working on buying the father a Toyota V8. Monica was tied up, stuffed in a bathtub with her throat slit on the 19th of September 2018.

Citizen TV reporter Jacque Maribe and her fiancée Joseph Kuria Irungu aka Jowie were arrested following the murder with Jowie being the main murder suspect. Jacque was later released on bail with a number of conditions that barred her from getting involved in News production.
