“Mambo Vipi Kenya” Absa Bank Kenya Excites Netizens With New Line

BY Juma · February 20, 2020 10:02 am

It is no longer Barclays Bank of Kenya but Absa Bank of Kenya. As the Central Bank of Kenya puts it “the transformation to ABSA Kenya draws the curtain on the 104 years that the Barclays brand has been part of Kenya’s history, from the colonial days to independence and to the present.”

But it is not the change of name from Barclays Bank of Kenya to Absa Bank of Kenya that has excited the online community in Kenya but the vibrancy in which the brand has taken to social media platforms, especially Twitter with a language that “resonates na Mwananchi wa kawaida.”

For years, the then Barclays Bank of Kenya (now Absa Bank of Kenya) was associated with “serious and official people”. Even the language on their social media platforms was official; either English or on some rare occasions, Swahili. This time around, things seem to have changed and Kenyans are now excited.

Here is their latest tweet:

“Finally a dream come true. I hope your services will not only be the same as Barclays but a little improved. I once went Murang’a branch but waited for 1 hr for the loan officer,” said a user by the name Heze Musi to which Absa replied “Hi Heze, Thank you for your feedback. As Absa, we endeavor to improve our services and walk with you on your financial journey.”

“Mbona mnatunyima reflector jackets?” Munene Gregory wanted to know and Absa promised to consider the suggestion.

For those who thought Absa is an acronym, you were wrong. “It is not an acronym, it is a name on its own,” said the lender. What about those looking for jobs? Well, Iko Kazi and Absa says “please keep checking our website for open vacancies, they are updated from time to time.”
