Bill Gates Quits Microsoft To Focus On Philanthropy

BY Juma · March 14, 2020 10:03 am

Billionaire and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is stepping down from the company’s board to focus on philanthropy activities in an announcement he made in the week.

Bill Gates says he wants to dedicate most of his time to global health, education, and tackling climate change and would not want other duties to hold him back.

Gates has also left Warren Buffett’s company, Berkshire Hathaway. In 2008, Mr. Gates stepped down from the day-to-day running of Microsoft.

“I am looking forward to this next phase as an opportunity to maintain the friendships and partnerships that have meant the most to me, continue to contribute to two companies of which I am incredibly proud, and effectively prioritize my commitment to addressing some of the world’s toughest challenges,” he said.

The billionaire has been vocal about the spread of the deadly Coronavirus, warning of massive deaths and pressure on health facilities in Africa.
