How to Switch to Latest Dark or Light Mode on WhatsApp

WhatsApp has finally delivered on its long-kept promise to its users on updating its themes and installed the dark and light modes on both iOS and Android systems.

The messaging app had been working on the update for just over two years now, after numerous requests from its users to install the dark mode which was most preferred and only available in unofficial apps such as WhatsApp Plus and GB.

According to WhatsApp, the installation of the new modes took so long because they wanted to ensure the readability and information hierarchy.

On the readability factor, WhatsApp says that when choosing colors, they wanted to minimize eye fatigue and use colors that are closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Android respectively.

On the other hand, the information hierarchy factor was essential because WhatsApp wanted to help users easily focus their attention on each screen. “We did this by using color and other design elements to make sure the most important information stands out,” said WhatsApp in a statement.

Here is how to switch to the dark or light mode on WhatsApp:

Step 1: If you haven’t updated your WhatsApp, you will need to do this since the new themes are not available in the older versions.

Step 2: Once you have updated your WhatsApp, head over to the app and click on the drop-down menu on the right-hand side of your screen and select setting.

Step 3: Select Chats on the new screen.

Step 4: On the display category, select theme and select your preferred theme
