Ignorance Amongst Kenyans Likely To Increase Coronavirus Infections

Kenyans have always found a way to humor every situation even when it is really bad, blame poor leadership for exposing them to too much hardship and now they think they have faced it all.

The majority of Kenyans will sadly find humor even in the death of one of their own and even further their display of ignorance by sharing it online desperate to get views.

Well, the current deadly outbreak has not been spared from Kenyans sadistic humor as they went online to share what they would inherit if the so and so were to die of Coronavirus.

Some “inherited” the statehouse”, others ‘inherited’ people’s spouses while others swore ownership to people’s businesses and job positions but just to ask if you have lived for 30 years or so, what have you done to improve it?

Well, if you think Kenyans are only sadistic jokers behind their keyboards and smartphones, then you are totally wrong as a walk around the Central Business District (CBD), especially the downtown will most likely leave you disgusted, I share my experience.

I took the walk from Pangani to the CBD on Wednesday 18th March at 3:30 pm, a few minutes after the health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe announced that Kenya had seven confirmed cases.

At around FigTree in Ngara in Nairobi, a Zangariwa guy waits as passersby approach and whenever someone is close enough for him, he forces a loud sneeze, funny? I did not think so, it is actually sick that someone will find that as a duty in their career.

Schools closed and one would think the students would head straight home given the threat posed by coronavirus and the high risk but NO, a majority of the students in Nairobi took their time and crowded the hawking spots for mitumba clothing.

Spotting various school uniforms, the students were obviously, oblivious of the risk they were exposing themselves to, a show that to them it is an early school holiday.

As I walked past the hawkers, I noticed not one or two but four of them spit out saliva and different times.

Most disgustingly was when one passerby around the Globecinema held one part of his nose and blew it, the mucous floated off in the air as I tightly held my scarf on my face, it was disgusting.

Then, there are the press conferences, where the government updates on the country’s state, it is mostly crowded as journalists scamper to hear what the leaders have to say leaving one wondering if the media is not aware of the seriousness of the issue, how will they make Kenyans aware?
