Twenty-one law graduates will have to go to secondary school to study before they can be allowed to join the Kenya School of Law (KSL).

The 21 who had earlier studied under the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in Kenya while some studied in Uganda are said not to have met the course requirements.

The 21 had even as gotten admitted to universities to study law before it was decided that they were not meeting the requirements and hence need to enroll in secondary schools to sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

The Kenya School of Law has turned the 21 students down arguing that they do not qualify to study law and that they are required to attach their A -level certificates.

The 21 students who have been turned down by the Kenya School of Law are also required to attach an equation letter (secondary school qualification clearance letter) from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) before they can be considered.

A section of the 21 students rejected by the Kenya School of Law and required to sit the KCSE exams first has since moved to the High Court to challenge the decision to deny them admission to the Law School.

The seven students are challenging the requirement but the court has ruled that the students attach their IGCSE, GSCE and GCE certificates together with equation letters in their submission of the application to the Kenya Law School.

According to KNQA Director-General Juma Mukhwana, for one to qualify in joining university after study under the system, one is required to have three principals of C in the examination.

Some of the 21 students denied admission by the Kenya School of Law had only one Principal C in those subjects hence disqualifying them for the programmes and are instead supposed to start at diploma level.
