Man killed By Mob In Kwale Over Coronavirus Symptoms

A middle-aged man was beaten to death by a mob in Kwale after he allegedly showed coronavirus like symptoms.

George Kotini Hezron, 35, who was heading home after a drinking spree when he met the group of men who wrestled him and left him for dead.

A police report revealed that Kotini passed a group of youth who were sitting by the roadside. And because he sneezed they claimed he had contracted coronavirus and after a long argument, the youth attacked him and beat him up.

County police commander Joseph Nthenge said,” Someone reported that the attackers saw the man staggering. They approached him, started an argument and beat him up.”

”Our officers took the man to Msambweni hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He suffered serious injuries on his head and chest which we believe caused his death,” the County police commander said.

The police chief said no arrests had been made while urging the residents to avoid raising a false alarm about the deadly covid19.

”How can you punish one of being a coronavirus patient? This is brutality and criminal. No one will be spared.”

Meanwhile, Kenya has so far reported seven cases of the coronavirus with the Government urging the citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious cases through the helpline provided by the Ministry of Health.

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that a national prayer day will be held on 21st March 2020 as the country continues to fight the covid19 pandemic.

“The world today is facing a serious threat, brought about by a spreading pandemic that is affecting all peoples, all countries and institutions across the globe,” President Kenyatta said.

“In our own local context, we have done and continue to do everything possible to keep our citizens safe and prevent further spread of the virus to our population while securing the continuity of business operations,” he added.

“But fellow Kenyans even with these efforts, we cannot ignore the need to turn to God.”
