Mbagathi Nurses Go-Slow Over Lack Of Sufficient Training On Coronavirus

Nurses at Mbagathi Hospital where Kenya’s largest quarantine has been set up are now in on a go-slow.

The Go-slow that has kicked off today morning, 16th March 2020, after nurses complained of lacking proper training and provision of medical material to handle the coronavirus patients.

The Kenyatta Mbagathi Quarantine facility is tasked with holding patients suspected to have come into contact with patients who tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19.

The nurses expected to care for the 22 individuals who came into close contact with the first confirmed Coronavirus case in the country and are quarantined at the Mbagathi facility.

Complaints had been shared on social media on Sunday the 15th of March 2020 over the sad state of affairs at the Mbagathi hospital with the nurses saying they feared not only for their lives but also for their loved ones.

It has been reported that there is no running water at Mbagathi hospital and the alleged patients that had tested positive for coronavirus were yet to receive their results four days later.

The Mbagathi hospital management had however moved in fast to dispel the claims by the nurses.

“I’ve checked with the person in charge and everything is fine,” a representative for the hospital stated on Sunday in response to the allegations.

“You cannot just go with everything you see on social media. If the nurses had downed their tools you would know about it already,” said Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna in a phone interview.

“Even the Head of State said it yesterday. The government is providing training and adequate support for caregivers who are at the front-line of this fight across the country,” Oguna added.

Kenya has so far reported three coronavirus cases that have prompted the government to order all schools closed.
