The United States (US) President Donald Trump notified a White House briefing that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had approved a ‘very powerful’ drug called chloroquine which had the ability to treat coronavirus.

Chloroquine medication is previously known for its use in treating Malaria, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic Lupus disease.

“It’s shown very encouragingly — very, very encouraging early results. And we’re going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately, “Trump told the press in the White House Briefing.

President Trump who referred to Coronavirus as the ‘Chinese virus’ or the ‘Kung flu virus’ said that the FDA had been great in approving the drug and that it would be easily available by prescription.

“And that’s where the FDA has been so great. They — they’ve gone through the approval process; it’s been approved. And they did it — they took it down from many, many months to immediate. So, we’re going to be able to make that drug available by prescription or states,” Trump said.

Trump who even seemed to be congratulating the FDA for quick approval of chloroquine has been called out for misleading not only the US citizens but the World at large.

“Normally the FDA would take a long time to approve something like that, and it’s — it was approved very, very quickly and it’s now approved, by prescription,” Trump said in the briefing.

Chloroquine almost tripled in prices immediately the US President Donald Trump made the announcement that has since been termed ‘wrong’, ‘mythical’ and ‘misleading’.

Facts On Chloroquine-President Trump misled the world

The FDA has not approved any drugs to treat coronavirus and it definitely has not approved the Chloroquine to treat the deadly virus.

“There are no FDA approved therapeutics or drugs to treat, cure or prevent the COVID-19,” the FDA put it out clearly in a press briefing.

Chloroquine is only approved for other purposes that are nowhere near Coronavirus.

Chloroquine, according to the FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn, will be tested through a ‘Large pragmatic clinical trial’ with coronavirus patients which outrightly means chloroquine is yet to be effectively tried on coronavirus patients.

“We also must ensure these products are effective; otherwise we risk treating patients with a product that might not work when they could have pursued other, more appropriate, treatments,” Dr. Hahn said in a statement.

The World has since come out in large numbers on social media to reproach President Trump arguing that as a President he should be aware and responsible for his utterances especially at a time when the world is fighting a global pandemic.
