Why Are Africans Not Dying From Coronavirus? Experts Wonder

BY Juma · March 2, 2020 12:03 pm

As Africans pray and hope that the deadly Coronavirus does not hit their countries, some individuals in the Western world are wondering why the virus is not in Africa.

The deadly Coronavirus has killed more than 2,800 people and infected more than 85,000 others, with the majority of casualties being recorded in China, especially in the city of Wuhan.

So far, only three African countries; Egypt, Algeria, and Nigeria have reported one positive case of the virus each with efforts in place to keep it away.

It appears this is not what “Health Experts” in the European World anticipated. It is like they expected the coronavirus to sweep across Africa like a bushfire, killing people like flies and now that nothing is happening, they are “worried.”

Could it be that these people wanted Coronavirus to hit and ravage Africa but the plan backfired?

As the “Western World” Continues to “WORRY” why we Africans are not dying, we should not ignore the fact that the virus might strike any time.

Is the health sector ready to handle a mass outbreak? How many beds do we have? 11? How many experts do we have? Do we have a functional lab?

Do we have a well-established reporting system in case of a Coronavirus case? Do we have a hotline that Kenyans can call to report? What steps should one take?

If people were to stay indoors, do they have enough food? Do they have enough water? Do they have enough cash to last them week/month? Or are they likely to die of hunger?

Do we have to face masks? Have they been ordered? Have people been shown how to use them? Do even people know the symptoms of this deadly virus?

Have we put measures in place to stop/prevent Coronavirus from landing in Kenya? What is the progress so far?

We should watch China and learn. China is a first world country, yet it has lost more than 2,000 people with over 70,000 infected. If a first world country is struggling to contain this menace, what will a poor third world country like Kenya do?
