COVID-19 Day 37: 455 Quarantined For Defying Curfew, 11 New Cases

The Ministry of Health has placed 455 people on mandatory quarantine as confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country hit 281 with 14 deaths.

Addressing the media in the Ministry’s daily brief on COVID-19 in Kenya the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has said that the 455 Kenyans arrested defying the curfew are now in mandatory quarantine at their own cost.

“We have taken 455 persons for mandatory quarantine for defying curfew regulations and as you were all informed yesterday, the 455 individuals will now have to be on mandatory quarantine for 14 days so we can be sure they do not carry the virus,” CS Kagwe has said.

The Health CS has also revealed that Kenya’s COVID-19 confirmed cases have risen to 281 after eleven more people have tested positive for the virus.

Among the eleven that have tested positive for COVID-19 are seven people from quarantine centres in Mombasa and four people from Nairobi’s Ruaka area who were picked by the Ministry of Health surveillance team.

All the eleven people that have tested positive in the last 24 hours have no history of travel and are only contacts of people who tested positive with three from Mombasa being contacts to a herbalist who died of COVID-19 in Mombasa aged 81 years old.

The eleven include five females and six males and are aged between the ages of 11 years old to 80 years old according to CS Kagwe.

The Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe was also glad to note that two more people have been discharged and including them is a doctor which now leaves one doctor fighting the virus as a patient in Kenya.

The number of recoveries has since risen to 69 after the two recoveries have been registered with the number of fatalities now at 14, no fat5ality has been reported today, 20th April 2020.
