Covid-19 Deaths In US Now Past 50,000 As Vaccine Enters Trials

Covid-19 continues to sweep across the world with the United States of America leading both in the number of confirmed cases as well as deaths.

As of Thursday evening, the number of confirmed deaths in the United States of America as a result of Coronavirus stood at 50,243 with that of infections being at 886,709. A total of 85,922 people have recovered so far.

Every state in the USA now has cases of Coronavirus even as the first trial of the vaccine is rolled out to “a few patients.” The fight against the virus in the US has been affected by inadequate health facilities and equipment.

Italy is the second in terms of confirmed deaths at 25,549 and confirmed cases of infections at 189,973.

Italy seemed overwhelmed with the virus with both their hospitals and morgues being full. Analysts say stringent measures as us total lockdowns and isolations are helping in cutting down the rate of infections.

Spain has 213,024 confirmed cases of Coronavirus with 22,157 confirmed deaths. France has 158,183 confirmed cases with 21,856 deaths.

The rate of infections in Africa is still low but experts warn that it might be a ticking bomb given that many African countries are not carrying out large-scale tests as it is required.

So far, South Africa is the only country that has carried more tests than any other African country. The number of confirmed cases in South Africa is at 3,953 followed by Egypt at 3,891.

Morocco, Algeria, and Cameroon have 3,568, 3,007, and 1,334 respectively. Most African countries have initiated lockdowns to contain the spread of the virus.

In East Africa, Somalia is leading with 328 confirmed cases followed by Kenya with 320 confirmed cases. Tanzania follows closely with 284 confirmed cases while Sudan has 174.
