Kenya now has 208 confirmed COVID-19 cases after eleven more people have tested positive within the last 24 hours moving the numbers from 197 to 208 cases.

“It is exactly one month since we announced the first case of coronavirus Kenya, we have scaled up our efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus and spent millions to create isolation and quarantine centers,” the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said while announcing today’s 13th April 2020 brief.

“Since the day Kenya announced the first case of COVID-19, we have tested more than 8,000 samples and prepared 1,666 isolation beds in preparation to fight the spread of COVID-19, “the Health CS has said.

“Moving forward, there will be challenges in maintaining our cultural practices as we will need to protect the living in extreme cases,” CS Mutahi Kagwe has said adding his voice to the bizarre case of a Siaya man who was a KPA employee being buried at night.

Kagwe has noted that the Ministry of Health is working together with the County Government of Siaya to come to the root of the matter where the man who succumbed to COVID-19 was buried at night though noting that Kenyans should be prepared to forego their cultural rights incase the country experiences too many cases of COVID-19.

“In the last 24 hours, 674 samples have been tested and eleven out of those have tested positive bringing Kenya to pass the 200 mark which means that though Kenya has overcome the modeled numbers of week one of April, we are not yet out of the deep waters and cannot ease on fighting the spread of COVID-19,” CS Kagwe has said.

All the eleven that have tested positive in the last 24 hours are Kenyans and include six males and five females coming from various Counties as listed below:

Mandera – 4

Mombasa – 3

Nairobi-3

Nakuru – 1

Machakos – 1

Mandera now has a total of 6 confirmed cases after four more people have tested positive for COVID-19.

Four of the eleven that have tested positive within the last 24 hours have been drawn from the mandatory quarantine while seven were picked from various parts of the country by the Ministry of Health Surveillance.

The Ministry of Health has also reported 15 more recoveries bringing the total number to 40 in Kenya while sadly, one more person has died bringing the total number of deaths to 9

The government is currently tracing 619 individuals believed to have come into contact with the  208 positively confirmed COVID-19 cases in Kenya.
