“I Didn’t Know What I Was Signing”, Mike Sonko On Nairobi Transfer Deal

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is either illiterate, ignorant, or both or maybe he thinks Nairobians are fools, illiterate and ignorant. Maybe they are.

The flamboyant Nairobi Governor shocked everyone when he signed a Deed of Transfer with the National Government, transferring all the functions he was elected to perform to the national government leaving him only with the function of regulating porn and licensing ownership of dogs.

Nairobians called him out but he dismissed them saying it was for their own good. Now, he appears to have woken from his stupor with reality hitting him that he signed his power away without knowing.

Through his official Facebook page, Mike Sonko now says he never saw the draft of the transfer of functions deed before signing. He says he was hoodwinked into signing a document without reading it. One wonders how many documents Mike Sonko has signed without reading.

“I was not given sufficient time to even read the draft. I was just told it was good a thing to the service delivery for the great people of Nairobi as I deal with my court case,” he said. Talk of ignorance.

Mike Sonko now says that ever since he signed the document, he has never been given a signed copy for himself. He says he left all copies with Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Eugine Wamalwa.

He says he is planning to go to court to have the Deed terminated. But if the man has no idea what he signed, what is he going to court for? Section 9 of what he signed says that the contract will be in place for 24 months (2 years) and can only be terminated by mutual written consent by both parties expressed in one document.

The document Mike Sonko signed, transferred the functions of health, transport, and public works to the National Government. The collection of revenue by the county government of Nairobi was taken away and given to Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
