Kenya’s low-cost airline, Jambojet has announced the suspension of all its operations to comply with the government’s directive of stopping all movement in and out of Nairobi and three other counties for the next 21 days.

The Government of Kenya, through President Uhuru Kenyatta, on the 06th April 2020, announced the cessation of all movement by road, rail or air in and out of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale counties for the next 21 days.

“In light of this, Jambojet will temporarily suspend all its operations for the period between 07th – 30th  April 2020. We, therefore, regret to inform all our customers and business partners that all the flights for the said period are canceled with immediate effect,” said Jambojet in a statement.

The airline told passengers who had booked to fly with them during the month of April to reschedule their flights. “We would like to encourage all passengers scheduled to travel within the month of April 2020, to consider rescheduling their travel plans to a later date at no extra cost. The value of these tickets will remain valid for a period of 12 months from the 07th April 2020.”

Jambojet is among the widely used low-cost airline not only in Kenya but in other destinations such as Kigali and Kampala.

“Thank you for your continued support and at this moment, we urge you all to abide by the Government directive, exercise caution and adhere to the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health and WHO. We look forward to welcoming you onboard once the situation gets back to normal,” said Jambojet.

Kenya has so far tested 4277 people since it reported the first positive case of coronavirus according to a statement released by President Uhuru Kenyatta. 16 more people tested positive for coronavirus bringing the total number to 158 total cases.

Four of the 158 total cases have recovered fully while six have, sadly, succumbed to the deadly virus. “While the majority recover, when the virus spreads, it will stretch our healthcare facilities and hence cause many deaths.”
