Nairobi To Use Drones For Aerial Fumigation To Tame Coronavirus

Do not be shocked when you see drones flying above you as Nairobi is planning to start fumigation of the city’s aerial space to combat the spread of the Coronavirus.

According to the Health Department, drones are seen to be faster, covering a wider area at a time and at the same time minimal human resources will be required.

Nairobi County Executive for Health Services Hitan Majevdia said aerial fumigation plans are already underway with a request already sent to the Ministry of Health to procure the drones.

“We are currently at the procurement stage of the drones and I have engaged my superiors at the Ministry of Health. It is a process but is the best and the fastest way to fumigate the city. This will drastically reduce the spread of the coronavirus,” said Hitan Majevdia.

The plans to fumigate the city against the Coronavirus had already started where 12 out of 17 sub-counties had been fumigated.

The county officials, however, announced that even though they target the 17 sub-counties, the focus will still be on the densely populated areas.

The city’s most congested areas and public places like Gikomba, Muthurwa, City and Wakulima markets, GPO, religious places and public benches were the first ones to be fumigated.

Busy streets and residential areas in Eastleigh, Buruburu, and Korogocho had also been fumigated to tame the spread of the virus.

“We have to ensure that all the stages, open-air markets, and public places are fumigated as we strive to speed up the spraying of all estates in the county,” said Governor Sonko when he was urging residents to cooperate during the fumigation process.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases has risen to 179 as seven more people tested positive on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

With the numbers being expected to shoot drastically, Kenyans are told to brace for the worst and tougher rules in the coming days.
