The Grave Dance: Greedy Kenyans Spread COVID-19 In Their Ignorance

BY Soko Directory Team · April 20, 2020 12:04 pm

It is urgent, it is dire…the Ministry of Health needs to act on the disposal of used masks from hospitals as Kenyans have taken to washing and selling them to make a killing as COVID-19 spreads.

Photos being shared online show a section of Kenyans sitting to wash medical masks that are poured out in large numbers on the bare ground making it obvious that greed is superseding humanity at a time when a crisis is threatening to wipe human race if discipline is not paramount.

If as citizens and human beings cannot respect the sanctity of life, then we cannot say it is the Coronavirus that will have killed us or our loved ones but our ignorance, greed, and arrogance.

The Ministry of Health is definitely aware of the rogue Kenyans who have decided to trade lives for a few coins and the Health CAS Doctor Mercy Mwangangi did speak on it yesterday, 19th April 2020, saying that recycling of the clinical masks is indeed a criminal offense.

“Recycling of surgical masks is criminal and the Ministry of Health shall be rolling out guidelines in regard to safe disposal of masks,” said Doctor Mercy Mwangangi.

The majority of Kenyans are simply ignorant, yes, we are very ignorant, the fact that if you walk outside with a mask, you are likely to be faced by so many people who will find humor cannot be defined in any other terms.

The story of a family traveling from Nairobi to Homabay in the disguise of driving their dead kin in a coffin in the vehicle only for the coffin to turn out empty despite the government setting out measures is not even humorous, it is irritating.

From the lodgings in Kawangware where men believed to be married keep on popping in and out with young girls to the brothels in South C, Hurlingham, and Westlands where the business is lit as ever, Coronavirus is not just spreading in the country, it has fertile ground prepared and back to the soil, it shall be, thanks to the ignorant few.

From the cheap bars in Westlands where corrupt cops pass by to pick Caeser’s corrupt share to the overwhelming house parties from our neighbors that will not allow us to sleep at night, ignorant Kenyans have decided that it is life as usual even what that same life is threatened.

There will be many of us lying in tents at Stadiums in Kenya not because it should have happened but because we have decided to behave as rebellious children yet we refuse the rod by the police saying it is brutal.

The day is coming when we will beg the same police to beat anyone of us not adhering with the health measures, sadly, it will be too late and we will not be able to awaken our dead kin from the graves and will have to live knowing we infected them in our ignorance.

The transmission of COVID-19 in Kenya is now no longer from quarantine centers, it is no longer from the outside country travelers, it is now spreading amongst us at our places of work, the market, entertainment joints, salons, transport industry even in our hospitals.

Local transmission simply means that there is a very high chance that there is a case in that vehicle you are in, in that salon, barber, market, mall, house-party, neigborhood, everywhere.

Kenya so far has 270 COVID-19 cases and for the last few days, the cases that have been announced are as a result of community transmission yet Kenyans act as if they are not in any way predisposed to it and are instead working around the clock to craft a way of bending the law and get away with it.

“Local transmission is worrying us the most, we cannot know, everyone who is infected. Going forward, we are activating community policing,” Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said on 19th April.

Policing in the community to Help identify COVID-19 cases will include:
Use of community health workers
Public health officers and multi-agency teams at roadblocks
Activation of Nyumba Kumi
Utilization of technology in tracking & surveillance.

Cases of Kenyans being ferried out of locked counties in car boots, food trucks in the disguise of cabbages are disheartening after having watched how COVID-19 has devoured developed countries and Kenya only being a developing country and decades behind in matters development one can only watch and pray that reality hits home sooner than later.
