25th May Gazzeted As A Public Holiday To Mark Idd-ul-Fitr

The government has today,20th May 2020, gazetted Monday the 25th of May 2020 as a public holiday to mark the Idd-ul-Fitr.

In exercise of his powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has gazetted the 25th of May as a public holiday to enable Muslims to celebrate the Idd-ul-Fitr at a time when they have had a fast during a difficult time following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Muslims began observing the holy month of Ramadan on April 23, 2020, as the World fought hard to defeat the COVID-19 spread that has claimed more than 300,000 lives.

Idd-ul-Fitr is the Festival of Fast-breaking which is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of Ramadhan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Idd-ul-Fitr marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadhan which goes between 29 to 30 days when Muslims fast to indulge in prayers.
