Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi is now conducting free Covid-19 testing for all their In-patients, Surgical, and Day Surgery patients as part of the safety measures to provide a safe environment for all patients and staff.

According to the management at the hospital, the move will enable the institution to determine the best approach to care for patients including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during their stay in the Hospital hence enhance the safety of patients and caregivers.

“Since the onset of the pandemic, Aga Khan Hospital has remained in consultation with the Ministry of Health, our medical staff, and experts in our Infectious Diseases Department to ensure that we have a safe environment of care for our patients, visitors and staff. During this period, all our services have continued uninterrupted both at the Main Hospital in Parklands and Outreach centers,” said the hospital in a statement.

“As part of our safety measures, everyone visiting our facilities (the Hospital and Outreach Centres) is screened on entry and their temperature measured. All persons must wear a mask and sanitize their hands before entry into the facility.” The hospital says it will continue screening anyone entering the premises.

The move by Aga Khan University Hospital comes ahead of plans by the Ministry of Health to make it mandatory for Kenyans visiting health facilities to be tested of Covid-19. The announcement by the Ministry of Health, however, has seen the number of Kenyans visiting public health facilities drop drastically.

The number of confirmed cases in Kenya stood at 1029 on Wednesday after 66 new cases were confirmed within 24 hours, making it the highest never ever recorded since the announcement of the first case in Kenya in March. The Ministry says Kenyans are scared of visiting the health facilities for fear of being tested and found with Covid-19.
