Anosmia Is Another Symptom Of COVID-19 You Need To Be Aware Of

Expect to also lose your sense of smell or taste or both (anosmia) in the scenario you catch the COVID-19 virus, this is after the two have been added to the official list of coronavirus symptoms in the UK by the Department of Health and Social Care.

Not being in a position to smell or taste should be a cause of concern for you now as it could be a sign you have COVID-19 especially if it is accompanied by fever or a continuous cough, the UK government has warned.

“The Chief Medical Officers of the four nations in the United Kingdom have endorsed this expansion of symptoms, after having closely monitored the emerging data and evidence on COVID-19 and, after thorough consideration and we are now confident enough to recommend this new measure,” the statement said.

The lack of smell and taste which is referred to as anosmia emerged as a potential COVID-19 symptom in March when doctors in the United States called for it to be added to the “list of screening tools” for the virus.

Anosmia was also mentioned by Idris Elba, an actor who tested positive for COVID-19, as a symptom, he suffered before he finally tested positive and has also been mentioned by a number of famous people who have tested positive for the viral infection.

The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) listed anosmia as a symptom for COVID-19 a month ago with cases of patients experiencing the symptom increasing all over the world.

Information and understanding of exactly what symptoms one needs to look out for in the case of the COVID-19 pandemic is crucial in fighting the virus.

Kenya currently has 912 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 50 deaths with 15 of those having occurred in homes which are easily attributed to lack of awareness with most Kenyans keeping of hospitals.
