COVID-19 Cases Up To 490 With 25 New Cases In 24 Hours

Kenya now has a total of 490 confirmed cases of Coronavirus after the announcement of 25 new cases on Monday. A total of 1,112 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours according to a brief from the Ministry of Health.

On Sunday, Kenya recorded the highest number of positive cases since the announcement of the first case at 30 with the Ministry of Health cautioning Kenyans on the escalating numbers in the past few days.

Among the 25 new cases reported on Monday, 15 are from Nairobi while 10 are from Mombasa. According to the Ministry of Health, all 25 cases have no history of traveling out of the country. 13 are male while 12 are female.

A total of 6 patients have also recovered from the pandemic in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 176. The government says the number of confirmed cases are set to rise in the coming days as mass testing kicks off in Mombasa and Nairobi.

In Nairobi, Eastleigh, and Kawangware and still the hotspots with the Ministry of Health saying mass testing will continue in the areas until all residents are tested. However, very few residents have been turning up to be tested for fear of being stigmatized upon testing positive.

Kenyans are also fearing to take the voluntary tests for fear of being quarantined in government facilities and forced to pay up to 3,000 shillings per day for at least 14 days. The majority of those who are reluctant with the testing are from poor households.
