On Thursday, May 14, 2020, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced new fuel prices that will be applied for the next 30 days.

For the first time in 13 years, the prices of fuel; Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene dropped the most giving Kenyans an opportunity, especially those who own cars to enjoy low prices.

Residents of Nairobi will be paying 83.33 shillings for a liter of Super Petrol, 78.37 for a liter of Diesel and 79.77 for a liter of kerosene. Currently, there is a cessation of movement in and out of Nairobi (which might be lifted) and people allowed to travel.

People in Mombasa will enjoy the lowest prices than the rest of the country given their proximity to the port hence little to no transport costs. A liter of Super Petrol in Mombasa will go for 80.85 shillings while that of Diesel will go for 75.88 shillings. A liter of Kerosene will go for 77.29 shillings.

The people of Marsabit, given their distance from Mombasa, they will pay 91.18 shillings for a liter of Super Petrol, 86.22 shillings for a liter of Diesel and 87.63 shillings for a liter of Kerosene.

Nakuru residents will pay 83.22 shillings for a liter of Super Petrol, 78.41 shillings for a liter of Diesel and 79.81 shillings for a liter of Kerosene. Ironically, the price of Super Petrol in Nakuru will be slightly cheaper than in Nairobi.

Those in Eldoret will pay 84.20 shillings for a liter of Super Petrol, 79.38 shillings for a liter of Diesel, and 80.78 shillings for a liter of Kerosene.

Those in Kitale are paying 84.56 shillings for a liter of Super Petrol, 79.73 shillings for a liter of Diesel and 81.14 shillings for a liter of Kerosene.

Residents of Kisumu are paying 84.19 shillings for a liter of Super Petrol, 79.37 shillings for a liter of Diesel and 80.77 shillings for a liter of Kerosene.

The drop in fuel prices, especially Diesel and Petrol are of a result of the dropping global prices of crude oil as well as a drop in landed costs.
